18 But
blessed are the poor who are pure in heart, whose hearts
are broken, and whose spirits are contrite,
for they shall see the kingdom of God coming in power and great glory
unto their deliverance; for the fatness of the earth shall be theirs.
When we are broken-hearted and our spirits are contrite, we are
not offended by hard doctrine. We may
not agree completely with a certain teaching or procedure, but we don’t just
throw it away. We hold it in our hands
like sand; then, from time to time, we shake it, letting a little sand sift
out. Over time, as we continue to soften
our hearts, we find the gold flecks in our hand as the doctrine becomes clear
and bright.
