Section 54

10 And again, be patient in tribulation until I come; and, behold, I come quickly, and my reward is with me, and they who have sought me early shall find rest to their souls. Even so. Amen.

“Sought me early,” means to not procrastinate, to think of Him first, to seek to know Him, and to love Him with all of our hearts.

Section 55

And again, verily I say unto you, for this cause you shall take your journey with my servants Joseph Smith, Jun., and Sidney Rigdon, that you may be planted in the land of your inheritance to do this work.

This teaches me that we should “bloom where we are planted.” Jon, Tina, and their children are being asked by the Lord to do this in Murray, Utah during this season of their lives.

Section 56

18 But blessed are the poor who are pure in heart, whose hearts are broken, and whose spirits are contrite, for they shall see the kingdom of God coming in power and great glory unto their deliverance; for the fatness of the earth shall be theirs.

When we are broken-hearted and our spirits are contrite, we are not offended by hard doctrine.  We may not agree completely with a certain teaching or procedure, but we don’t just throw it away.  We hold it in our hands like sand; then, from time to time, we shake it, letting a little sand sift out.  Over time, as we continue to soften our hearts, we find the gold flecks in our hand as the doctrine becomes clear and bright.
