Section 74

 But little children are holy, being sanctified through the atonement of Jesus Christ; and this is what the scriptures mean.
Little children are whole and pure through the atonement of Christ.  At the age of accountability (age 8) they are eligible for baptism.  Infant baptism (ages 0-7), therefore, is a gross offense to the Lord because it mocks his atonement.  Children who die before the age of 8 are not lost!  They are saved in the Celestial Kingdom of God.

Section 73

Joseph is asked do go to his neighbors and preach the gospel until conference.  Then when conference comes, he is to give the church direction from the Lord.  This instruction led me to ponder how we do things according to the seasons. In other words, we have patterns for the way we live our lives. The preacher in Ecclesiastes said it this way:
1 To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
 2 A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;
 3 A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;
 4 A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
 5 A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;

 6 A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
 7 A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
 8 A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.

Section 72

For verily thus saith the Lord, it is expedient in me for a bishop to be appointed unto you, or of you, unto the church in this part of the Lord’s vineyard.
When I read this verse, I reflected back on the bishops of my life. I am going to try to produce the list:
David R. Stone, McMurdie, Hymes, Baird, Chadwick, Emmett, Jensen at (545 E 5th N in Logan); Parker (married student at USU); Larson, VanDerbeek (Hyrum); Peterson, Hobbs (Logan), Hanks, Nielson, Barrett, Bingham (Las Vegas); Salmond, Alston (Tucson); Clark, Stone (Laramie); Residori, McMurtrey, Miller, Fong (American Fork).
Each bishop has been important; some have been crucial in helping me stay on the path. I have also been blessed with wonderful stake presidents. Baird and Turner were probably the most influential.
