The Lord knew that Martin Harris would lose the 116 pages of the Book of Lehi. So way back in the beginning of the Book of Mormon, the Lord commanded Nephi to make a second set of plates "for a wise purpose." The Small Plates of Nephi contained the information lost in the 116 pages and actually explained the Gospel of Jesus Christ better than the Book of Lehi. So nothing important was actually lost. We will make mistakes in our lives that the Lord knows about. He will make available to us second chances just like he did Joseph Smith, if we repent and humble ourselves. We must ask the Lord what his will for us would be rather than assuming our way is the best. When we ask in faith, we commit to make the changes required and do things his way.
