Section 11

This section was given to Hyrum Smith, Joseph's brother.  He desired to go forth and participate in the missionary work.  However, the Lord tells him to first study and "obtain my word."  Then he would be able to confidently teach the people.  He was also told to seek to have the Holy Spirit with him by keeping the commandments with all his heart.  Finally, he was promised that if he would be faithful that he would be given power by God to become a son of Christ, meaning he would be adopted into the family of Christ.  This same promise is given to all of Christ's faithful followers.  We obtain his name by taking upon us sacred covenants:  baptism and temple.
When we are baptized we take upon us the name of Jesus Christ.  It is the same as taking upon us the name of our father.  For example, I took the name "Stone" from my father.  When I was baptized, I took upon myself the name "Jesus Christ."  Thus, I became a Christian.  I strive to always remember him and keep his commandments so that I can always have his Spirit to be with me.
With my membership in the family of Christ, I have enabling strength given to me, through his Atonement, to overcome all of life's trials.  I am "born again" and receive hope and courage to endure to the end.
