Section 13

John the Baptist came to Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery and conferred upon them the Aaronic Priesthood.  This gave them the authority to baptize. They baptized each other immediately following John's visit.
As we know, John had been beheaded by the Herod.  So for him to appear to Joseph and Oliver he would have to have been resurrected!  Imagine the awe that these two men must have felt being in the presence of such a being!
It was not long after this visit by John the Baptist that Peter, James, and John the ancient apostles, also came to Joseph and Oliver and conferred upon them the Melchizedek Priestood. This "higher" priesthood gave them the authority to give the Gift of the Holy Ghost in the ordinance of confirmation.
In the church today, young men have the Aaronic conferred upon them at the age of twelve.  They receive the Melchizedek Priesthood at age eighteen.  The offices of the Aaronic Priesthood are Deacon, Teacher, and Priest.  The office of Bishop is also an Aaronic Priesthood office.  The offices of the Melchizedek Priesthood are Elder, Seventy, High Priest,  Patriarch, and Apostle.  The priesthood holders reside in Quorums.  There are deacons, teachers, and priest quorums for Aaronic Priesthood holders at the ward level; also meeting at the ward level there are elders and high priest quorums. The "General Authority" quorums are Seventies, Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, and The First Presidency.
The Church of Jesus Christ with all priesthood authority and organization has been restored to the earth in these latter days.
